This is for all the AKB48 fans out there! Maeda Atsuko (Acchan) is leaving the group at the end of August so I’ve decided to commemorate her graduation with a little mixtape. She is my favourite member of AKB48 and I actually cried multiple times after she announced her graduation.
The first disc is all of her official solo releases (my favourites include Kono Kune no Melody, La Brea Ave. and Migikata). All of them are very unique and great to listen to. Her singles doesn’t fit into the stereotypical J-Pop style. Instead, it sounds more country and contemporary (quite ‘vintage-coffee-shop-hipster’ Japanese if you ask me).
The second disc contains songs from her time in AKB. Iiwake Maybe is her election song where she won 1st place, there are some units in there from her stage performances, a few album duets (one with Tomochin and one with Takamina), my two favourite Team A songs and finally her solo of AKB48’s first ever single, Sakura no Hanabira(tachi).
This is the biggest write-up I’ve ever done on one of my downloads and it’s simple because Acchan is the fucking bomb. She’s an actress, a model, a singer, and an all-round excellent role model for young Japanese women. Not to mention she’s really pretty. I wish her well and I hope that her time out of AKB will be just as successful as it was in AKB.

By Dominic Wilcox, I struggled to pick my favourite of this inventive series of watch sculptures, the man in the seat had to be my favourite. I just know if I had one of these myself I would just wait all day for that magic moment when his bottom finds the chair. Wilcox seems to be a wizard of all things cool, he’s also the man behind the electric chair I posted before.
